Down South Where I (Wanna) Stay……

Processed with VSCOcam with s3 preset

This past weekend, we went down to San Antonio for the long weekend, because we had nothing better to do. Just kidding. I’ll tell you why, later.

We got to see the Terminator(Aspen) and spend some time with family for Jaelan’s birthday. But, more importantly, we got away from the blistering cold! We did come back to about half a foot of snow.

I was able to check out a couple of coffee spots, Local Coffee and Press Coffee. Both were awesome spots and served a great cortado. I found Press Coffee a little cozier and less crowded. Xavier and I tried out the Esquire Tavern on the Riverwalk for desserts and cocktails for Valentine’s. I highly recommend. Great space and atmosphere, and a little history. We had the VDay special and the pulled pork sandwiches, and the Bitter Flip cocktail. We couldn’t squeeze in Fiddy Shades, but maybe that was a good thing?

We also went on a hike with the girls at a nearby park for VDay. May just be a new tradition. Right before we finished:

Xavi: How many miles have we hiked?
Aspen: 5 days!! We walked for 5 days, Xavi!! (She sounded angry)

I think she was tired by then, lol. It was only a couple of miles, jeez.

Here are a few more photos. Sadly, I did not get any shot of the Riverwalk, next time. Have a great rest of the week!! 🙂

Hello February!!

20150202-010229.jpg

Happy February!! Finally, a post for 2015 🙂 (And hopefully more to come). It helps when you are snowed in or it’s just too cold to get out 😦 Also, Jaelan will become a teenager this month :(…So, we will have a teen, tween, and toddler.

20150202-010148.jpg

January pretty much breezed by, I am still looking for it, and February started out with a flurry…of snow. Anyways, I hope everyone’s 2015 has been going well so far. I definitely hope to post more than I have been lately. It was a busy/rocky December and January. Also, the second Pitch Bite Club post will be up, soon, I hope.

Highlights:

Jaelan started playing league basketball this season, her first. I am happy to report that she is doing better than expected. She has a knack for the game, and has picked it up pretty quickly. She is one of a few girls who has never played before. Xavier has been practicing and working with her, and that has helped a lot, because he has way more patience than I do. Plus she likes to give me attitude. Pfft!

Aspen left us this past week to go hang out with Mimi and party down in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, lucky kid. Hopefully ,she will send us pictures of the parades and other activities. I am sure she will be all over the place down there.

20150202-010523.jpg

Xavi got a bunch of Pokemon games and an ipad mini for Christmas, so she has been buried in electronics ever since. We practically have to pry her off of it every night.

20150202-010222.jpg

Well, that is it for now. There are some new(big) changes happening in the next few weeks/months. Hopefully we can share them on here soon. Cross your fingers and toes.

Have a great Monday and a productive week!!

Finally, Friday!!

20141010-012313.jpg

Happy Friday!! Fall is here and are you ready for the weekend? Since the Texans broke my heart last night, I’ll be cheering for the Royals tonight.

Last month marked one year of blogging. Time flies. Though I haven’t blogged in over a month, I am glad to be back.

Also, I decided to continue with this series. Year 2 Week 1 will start next week.

It’s been a little busy over here. The girls picked up their after school sports and activities this season. Xavi is playing league soccer and Jaelan is running on the Cross Country team at her school. Middle school sports is limited here, so after cross country, kids pretty much play league sports.

Xavi’s soccer team is currently undefeated and in First place. She loves being back on the soccer field. She has always had fun, but this year is special because this is the first winning/dominating team that she has ever played for. Side Note: Apparently I get too loud during the games, so Xavi asked me to stop yelling too loud.

20141010-012048.jpg

20141010-011914.jpg

Xavi expressed her desire to learn how to play the violin, so she signed up for it at school and she is currently taking private lessons. Let us pray it works.

20141010-012304.jpg

This is Jaelan’s first year of Cross Country competition. She has improved her time with every race, so I’ll take that as a win. She doesn’t understand why people would voluntarily run miles for no reason. I told her so that she won’t get fat. Just kidding.

Jaelan is doing choir again this year, and she tried out for state. She will find out if she makes it in November. Cross your fingers, toes, and tails.

Aspen:

I had lots of Aspen smart ass remarks to share with y’all, but then I lost my paper where I wrote down all of it. So, you will have to wait until I remember them.

New things about Terminator:

1. Her new favorite song is, “Bout the Base”.

2. She loves penguins.

20141010-011949.jpg

20141010-011957.jpg

3. She wants to be Elsa for Halloween.

4. She has fallen in love with soccer from watching Xavi play. I told her that she had to be five years old to join a team. So, she has told anyone who will listen that she is skipping four years old and going straight to five years old after her next birthday, so that she can play soccer.

Here she is “practicing” her soccer dribbling skills:

Week 50: Finally, Friday!!

20140901-110705.jpg

Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone is enjoying their time off from work! Who is bbq-ing today!? The weather here is clearing up, hopefully, just in time for backyard BBQ and drinks. Also, I am not sure if this series will continue after the one year post, which is only 2 weeks away. A weekly post can get a little redundant, maybe we will switch over to a monthly recap instead, we will see where it goes.

Highlights:

20140901-105951.jpg

Since I missed quite a few weeks of recap, I will include a few highlights: We have had a pretty busy summer, maybe one too many trips to Houston. Aspen and Xavier celebrated birthdays in June and July, and there was a wedding in the family. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Day!!

The girls started school about 2 weeks ago, a week earlier than Texas. Jaelan is now in 7th grade and in middle school, and Xavi is in 5th grade. Jaelan was really excited about getting a locker, she didn’t even care about school supplies, she just wanted locker decorations. Tweens.

20140901-110056.jpg

Also, Jaelan went to her first ever middle school dance this past Friday. Didn’t school just start? She said that some boy asked her to go to the dance, but she turned him down, and he moved on to the next girl. *Pause* Life needs to chill, like for real.

Jaelan will continue with choir because she loves it and, Xavi has joined the strings at school. Goodness gracious. I hope she likes the basement because that is where she will be practicing! Just kidding. I think it’s great that she wants to learn how to play the violin.

This past week, the girls started their fall sports activities. Jaelan is doing cross country, I’m not yet sure if she knows what that means. But we told her that it’s not one mile, not three miles, but lots and lots of miles. Her first track meet is on the 6th. Xavi is doing soccer, this week was her first week of practice, her first game is on the 6th. Jaelan is getting used running long distances, she is always pooped and hungry when she comes home. We are gonna have to get her more acquainted with a high carb diet. Xavi is getting used to big girl soccer. So, drills and fundamentals. She is playing for an U11 team, and yes, she is the smallest kid on the team. The coach loves her energy, she doesn’t seem to get tired, lol. But, she has taken a long break from soccer, so she needs to brush up on her skills.

Aspen:

Aspen started back at day care last week because our schedule is just too crazy to stay with her at home. So, there was a lot of meltdown and tears. She gets all excited and ready to go. But, when we get there to drop her off, she just loses it. One day, the teacher had to pry her off of me, because she was holding on really tight. Poor kid. This too shall pass.

Summer Fun in West Virginia!!

20140824-235040.jpg

**A little apology for taking over a month hiatus from the blog. It has been a quite a bumpy and busy month, and I am finally catching up on a lot of things, including the blog. YAY!** I thought I would start back up with the girls’ last summer stop.

I am a little bummed that summer is “over”. The girls have officially started another school year, and we now have a 7th grader and a 5th grader. However, they have had a fun and full summer, visiting family and friends, in Texas and West Virginia.

20140824-235121.jpg

20140824-235104.jpg

The girls spent their last bit of summer in West Virginia, visiting with my sister for the first time. She has a nice little property up there and the girls have been asking all year to go and visit. Our work schedule did not allow Xavier and I to join them, plus I am just bad at planning.

From what I heard, the girls had a blast up there and we might even make it an annual summer destination for them. They love it up there and they also learned a lot about living off of the land and survival skills. Plus they get to ride around in a four wheeler, a tractor, and have water balloon fights. I was uber jealous.

They also learned how to shoot, and Boogie looks like a natural. Don’t worry, my sister is a professional with weapons and an awesome teacher. She is a former military police with a tour in South Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq, under her belt. If I want anyone to teach my girls about guns and gun safety, it would be her. They also learned about fire safety and how to start a camp fire.

20140824-235057.jpg

20140824-235205.jpg

And of course, Aspen’s favorite were the animals. The girls got to help out around the place and feed the animals every morning. But they stayed away from the big pot belly pig named Becky.

Since, I was not up here, pictures were very limited, but here are a few and a couple of videos of the big girls learning how to shoot.

Week 44: Finally, Friday!!

20140713-234800.jpg

Happy end of the weekend! Here is late Friday post. I hope you had a great weekend. Congratulations to Germany for winning the World Cup, as I had predicted(on my bracket). But, the Rockets are not having a good week in the free agency world. So, hopefully the coming weeks will be better. I really, really, really doubt that Trevor Ariza will make a significant (or any) difference for us. So, find someone else, anyone else.

Highlights:

20140713-234426.jpg

It was a pretty uneventful week. We beat the heat this week, by going to a friend’s pool. This month, we are having Summer Games at work. I played in the Dodge Ball tournament. We won one and lost one. The winners were insane, I would have lost a limb as hard as they were throwing those soft ass balls. This week, I am doing the Free Throw contest, wish me luck. And Xavier and I finally got to check out Barrel 31. They have a great Happy Hour.

20140713-234753.jpg

Xavier took us to a huge park last weekend. I can say this about Kansas: They know how to do parks. Shawnee Mission Park is huge and full of activities.

20140713-234519.jpg

Aspen received a kite for her birthday, and she has been wanting to fly it, so we decided to have a picnic and fly kites at Shawnee Mission last weekend. I do not remember kite flying being so difficult when I was younger. I mean it took me, 3 tries of maybe 30 minutes at a time of running around trying to get that thing up. My kite flying arm(left) was sore the next day. But, I HAD TO get that kite to fly.

20140713-234743.jpg

20140713-234502.jpg

Xavi, Aspen, and I took turns trying to fly that thing, while Xavier and Jaelan laughed and pointed at us. They said I lied about knowing how to fly a kite. But, it turns out, I had the strings wrong, Xavi figured it out, and the stupid kite finally got up in the air. I said I knew how to FLY a kite, not how to CONSTRUCT one. But it finally flew, and Aspen was SO SO uber excited. And so I was happy.

20140713-234453.jpg

Aspen:

20140713-234435.jpg

While we were at a coffee shop last week, she scratched open a mosquito bite. We didn’t have any band-aids on hand, so she suggested we do this instead:

20140713-234815.jpg

And then she wanted to smell the flowers:

20140713-234840.jpg

Also, she loves her Doc McStuffins doctor set that she received for her birthday, and she loves to take your blood pressure, on your leg:

20140713-234418.jpg

Aspen is obsessed with Frozen. She watches it several times a day. She sometimes refers to herself as Anna. When one of her sisters are being mean to her, she tells us that Elsa is being mean. Also, she now offers kisses called, A True Love’s Kiss. She will caress your face from the forehead to your chin, then lift your chin up to her face, and give you a kiss. It is the cutest thing ever. I will try to get it on video. Finally, Aspen and the kitty still hates Fudge.

Toddler in the (Home) Gym!!

20140709-235716.jpg

Every once in a while, when I don’t feel like running, I (try) work out in the basement. We have a little gym set up down there, nothing fancy, a bench with legs extensions and bench press/squat bar, curl bars, punching bag, and free weights. If I have to go down there, I try to do it when Aspen is napping or before the whole house wakes up. Otherwise, I end up fussing/entertaining her rather than working out. Xavier on the other hand can work out with that crazy toddler running around down there.

Xavier is helping me out with training this week, so when Aspen sees us getting ready to work out, she too has to “exercise”, she says. I protest, of course. But, Xavier says she can come, all we have to do is let her exercise, he says. I have tried to work out with her down there and it usually ends in a war and no workouts.

20140709-235709.jpg

Anyways, I start working out and after every rep that I finish, Xavier lets Aspen do her, “exercises”, in between when I am resting. Of course, why didn’t I think of that? He lays her down on the bench and have her do sit ups while she counts out loud. It helps with her numbers, he says, and she loves that she gets to do everything on the bench. If you let her be a part of your workout, she won’t be a bother, he says. Yea right.

But, I do notice that after she does an exercise she goes off on her own and starts playing with her toys and even goes back up to play with her sisters. She only comes back down when she is ready to do her next “exercise”. And surprisingly, I am working out without any issues. And all I had to do was let her exercise. Of course I’m sure that when it’s just me and her, it won’t go as smoothly. But I will definitely be doing that next time she insists on exercising with me, instead of skipping a work out because I don’t want to fight with a toddler.

I am so busy seeing her as a distraction down there, that I forget that she might actually learn something from watching me work out. Maybe, I should see how it might teach her the value of fitness and exercising, and help with her numbers. Maybe. We’ll see. I’ll let you know how the new method, “works out”, without Xavier.
